After the success of the autumn Komeda tour, Wojtek Mazolewski Quintet starts its next edition.
Krzysztof Komeda’s music has inspired many generations of musicians not only in Poland but also abroad. This was also the case for Wojtek Mazolewski and the members of his quintet: Joanna Duda, Marek Pospieszalski, Oskar Torok, and Qba Janicki.
Last year, WMQ played a concert in London as a part of the prestigious “Church of Sound” series. Wojtek Mazolewski’s band presented to the London audience a special project “Polish Jazz” devoted to the legends of Polish jazz, including the music of Komeda.
The new concert program of the quintet with Krzysztof Komeda’s music has been created over the last two years – says Wojtek Mazolewski, – in our arrangements we show not only the potential of Komeda’s compositions, but also add our own modern quintet-based interpretation.
The world edition of the “Polka” album by Wojtek Mazolewski Quintet has been recognized by the American DownBeat Magazine as one of the five best jazz albums released this year. This is the first such distinction awarded to the Polish album in the history of the oldest and most prestigious jazz magazine in the world that has been published since 1932.
The “Polka Worldwide Deluxe Edition” album has also been mentioned by other media outlets around the world. The album was reviewed by, for instance, The Wire or the prestigious German JazzThing.
The album was also recognized by the legend of BBC Radio 6 Music, Gilles Peterson, who discussed it in one of the broadcasts.
Energetic concerts have become a trademark of Mazolewski’s music. He never fails to combine tradition with modernity. This makes his performances worth witnessing first hand

We live in a time of a breakthrough. The ecological crisis has become a fact that is now entering the stage of a catastrophe.
In Poland, the Vistula river is drying up, the trees are still being cut down on a large scale, and the animals are used in the livestock industry on a large scale. All the changes will have a detrimental effect on humans - the negative changes in the Earths's biosphere will also affects us.
On the other hand, there is clearly a positive breakthrough happening at the same time. People have been waking up and we are screaming in defense of our planet, basing our beliefs on knowledge and scientific data. This gives rise to the power of change, solidarity, energy for action. What was once impossible becomes possible at the social, cultural, and legal level.
During the discussion, we will talk about a breakthrough that has already been made - the changes in the belief system and at the systemic level.

- Marcin Urbaniak – Assistant Professor at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology at the Pedagogical University of Cracow,
- Karolina Kuszlewicz – adwokatka, ekspertka w zakresie prawnej ochrony zwierząt i przyrody
Discussing the paradoxical legal situation of animals depending on their category and
functions they perform - from household pets to livestock. Searching for the cultural genesis of Nature and animal exploitation: the myth of Man as
the ruler of the animal kingdom. Identifying the mechanisms strengthening the objectification of Nature.
Given the ethical breakthrough in the 20th century, the focus of the debate will be on the current issues with the status of animals in the urban space (birds, homeless animals) as well as outside these areas (hunting practices).
Finally, we shall ask the questions of how does our thinking, morality, and legislation related to Nature evolve? And how did it happen that the "free cows" from Deszczno in Poland were saved, even though it seemed systemically impossible a few months ago?

Fake news i manipulacja w sieci. Narzędzia do weryfikacji informacji. Warsztat Google News Lab [in Polish]
During the training, free tools for verifying information on the internet will be presented. The presentation is full of current examples of misinformation in the global media and ways in which they could be avoided.
Marek Miller will present simple tools and ways to verify information sources, images, videos, texts and locations. The presented tools include Google solutions (inverted image search, Google Maps and Google Earth, Google Translate, YouTube), but also other tools such as Wayback Machine, Forensically, Who is, Link Explorer, Suncalc, InVid, Mapchecking and others.
The key of the seminar are the case studies - real examples of light and more serious situations that happened in media and were or could be verified with these tools. The workshop is an eye-opener to those worried about the future of journalism as well as those who still think fake news is just another buzz word.
Marek Miller has been working in the media and journalism field for almost 16 years. Large part of this time he worked for one of the largest regional publishers in Poland (Polska Press Group), and therefore had a chance to witness Polish newspapers' digital transformation process from the inside from the very beginning. For many years he's been cooperating with global media organisations as INMA (International News Media Association) as well as GEN (Global Editors Network), WAN-IFRA (World Association of Newspapers) and FIPP (World Magazine Association).
He worked for Poland's audit bureau of circulation (ZKDP) where he organised conferences and workshops for journalists, and was the editor-in-chief of a media industry website Prasa.info (not existing now) that was aspiring to be the leading information source for Polish journalists about the media market. He cooperated with Poland's leading publisher Agora (Gazeta Wyborcza) in organising a number of journalists orientated events in Warsaw. As a media journalist he contributes for the leading media industry magazine in Poland "Press". In 2017 he was a Coaching and Leadership Fellow at the Poynter's Institute in Florida.
